“At Tata Steel in Ijmuiden, The Netherlands, we have used the QES-platform of QuinLogic for several years. The platform has high flexibility to set up rule-based quality checks for coil grading. Defining and setting up rules are managed by the quality and process engineers themselves,  with no specialist support needed from IT staff. Technical staff are in direct control; this makes quicker reactions possible on changing requirements and needs.

The flexibility to set up rules also gives the possibility to validate and enhance the data. In particular for data from Surface Inspection Systems, this step is essential to achieve higher reliability of the data in the decision-making process. The enhanced data can also to be used for route cause analysis. Other sensor data can be added, including sensor-system health information.

To ensure the data quality, supervision of Surface Inspection Systems is also in the QES-platform”.

Jan Willem Meder Senior Engineer Inspection and Quality Systems, Tata Steel, the Netherlands
